How do you create a fleece blanket with hood?

Learn how to create a Hooded Blanket with this free pattern, which comes in adult and child sizes. This cozy fleece blanket is perfect for the colder months. The most appealing thing of making this tutorial for blankets is the fact that it’s easy ideal for beginners to begin a sewing project. One of my favourite features of the fleece blanket is it’s simple to sew on and also easy to put on your wallet!
To complete this project, you’ll need:
- 3.25 yards of fleece (if you’d like to put the pocket/hood in another colour, it’s 1 yard of fleece and 2-yards for blanket)*
- Rotary Cutter and Ruler, and Mat Mat\
- Sewing important components (Sewing machine pins, needles thread)
- Free pattern for Fleece
For men, you’ll need an additional 1/2-yard to accommodate their arm length. If you want make your blanket larger than 58 inches you can use extra wide fleece of 85 inches to increase the size of the blanket.
STEP 1 – Drill out the free pattern
Put the pattern together. If you’re not familiar with digital patterns, use a hoe to put them together.
Choose if you’re making blankets for a child or an adult. Cut the pattern to the appropriate size for the hood (all other pieces of the pattern are identical in size).
Cut out the folds of fabric on the pockets for the Hood and the outer ones. There should be two pockets each.
On the folded baric, cut two handwarmers.
If you’re making the fleece hooded blanket of one fabric, you’ll be required to square off the top (ensure it is even and in straight lines) after cutting patterns pieces. If you’re using two fabrics, ensure that the edges of each fabric that will form the primary body of your blanket is equally.
For the final fabric to make the body of the blanket, cut from the selvages. They are edges, which have a different texture, contain holes and, in some cases, writing or the pattern ceases.
You should also have 2 pieces of hood, 2 pockets two Handwarmers…
And then the body of the blanket is ready to go, with the selvages cut off, and the ends trimmed.
STEP 2: Add the hood fitting to the blanket
When you have the right sides of your hood together Sew the hood’s back with the .5 inches seam allowance.
After sewing, you can cut tiny holes in the curve of the hood to aid the hood sit nicely.
Turn right side out.
Then, turn under the edge of the hood’s front 1 1. Sew the edges by using a zig zag stitch around the edges.
Place the hood in the corner.
STEP 3 – Prepare the pocket and handwarmers
The pocket pattern is divided into two pieces. The tops should be turned (the edge that is not round) and then fold it in 1”, so that it folds over to the reverse side of your pocket (wrong sides facing each other). Sew along the edges with a zig-zag stitch across each pocket.
Put the pockets in the drawers.
Take the two handwarmer pieces. The long edge should be turned to .5 inches. It should fold over to the opposite edge of the material.
Sew the edge with a Zig Zag stich on each handwarmer.
After sewing, you’ll notice an affluent “tail” hanging out of the triangle. Snip it off, making sure not to cut into the seam.
Repeat the process with the second handwarmer. Put your Handwarmers aside.
STEP 4 – Add the hood and Handwarmers to the DIY Fleece blanket
Find the blanket’s main piece. The size of the blanket between 56” and 58 The length that the blanket will be.
The center is marked on either side it was made off from. It is easy to do this by folding the selvage into half and marking it using pins. The right side should face towards you.
The center seam should be lined up using the pin/marking that we have just created. The hood should be pinched to the blanket and sew the two sides together. Sew the hood on using an .5 inches seam allowance.
It’s now time to attach the hand warmers on each side.
By putting right sides together, you can attach one handwarmer to the left edge in the blanket. This is the same side as the hood. Sew it in the desired position with the 0.5 millimeter seam allowance.
Repeat this procedure with the reverse edge of your blanket. The other handwarmer is sewn into position by using an .5 inch seam allowance. Be aware that it’s fine to have a small overlap between the hand warmer and the hood. Just make sure that the hood sits beneath the hand warmer.
Now that it’s stitched. Make sure that it is laid properly.
Trim the excess from the handwarmer’s corner and blanket, removing the bulk. Repeat with the other side.
Take care not to cut across the seam.
Make sure the handwarmers are left side out.
Now is the time to finish the blanket.
STEP 5 – Finish sewing the pockets and finish the edges of the Hooded Blanket
It’s time to put pockets in and then finish it off!
They should be set about 1/3 way to the bottom. The tops should be in identical to the hood. They should be located six inches away to the left of the edge.
Sew the pins in place with a zig zag stitch around the edges.
After the pockets are set, it’s time to finish your blanket’s edges.
Turn the edges under the blanket .5 5 (wrong sides facing each other) and stitch in the desired position using a zig-zag stitch around the edges. If you wish, you can finish stitching the handwarmers as well as the hood, too.
